Fashion Alerts
So little time. Yes, our summer hiatus went on a little longer than just the summer. But the phdmamas are back and fall fashion has been pushing high on our list of things to discuss.
I’ll lead off my fashion alerts with the more culturally enriching item first, forcing the highly gratuitous but extremely urgent [...]

Equation for mediating winter – spring fashion: spring dress + lightweight cardigan + gray tights +campus-friendly black heels (the Privo Clarks below) = so cute and professional. Spring dress and navy cardigan are both recent Anthropologie finds. Just doing my part to support the economy. -Jen

Conference Outfits
Jen will be kicking about and presenting at the NeMLA Conference in Boston this weekend. Here are two conference outfits. I have found that wearing a stand-out color helps people remember me and actually draws them in for easy conversation starters. Here, I’m taking a slight risk by adding a skirt in a premium, [...]

Why not a dress?
I’m not totally sure why, but I rarely wear dresses to teach. Perhaps I associate dresses at work with more formality than I think relevant for teaching, but this is not really an accurate or helpful association. Here is a great dress for teaching (found on sale at Nordstrom), especially when paired [...]

Last week a friendly acquaintance, Mrs. X, dropped by with her toddler in tow for a playdate. Mrs. X is a lovely woman whom I like very much. The New Liz Claiborne
In fashion news, Isaac Mizrahi is the new creative director at Liz Claiborne; his first line for the classic retailer is available this spring. I have never really been much of a Liz Claiborne shopper as they’ve tipped a little closer to Talbots on the fashion scale; but Mizrahi’s new line looks [...]

In the past few weeks, our Fashion Friday posts have been oriented around accessories, and this week, I will add my pick of a travel-related accessory to the archives. As most travelers know (especially phdmamas), it can be difficult to choose an appropriate airline carry-on bag that will fit the essentials (which might include a [...]

For the last two weeks I have been on an accessories kick with the Fashion Friday posts. In these uncertain economic times, I have been deriving a greater thrill from padding my savings account than padding my wardrobe budget. Nonetheless, who doesn’t like to update and add variety to their favorite outfits? Here is a [...]

This passport cover, available at Vera Bradley stores (I haven’t seen them available on-line yet), was a treat to myself this Christmas. I purchased a black one for my husband. They are available in a wide array of colors and patters. Too cute. -Jen
